    Rob, if you choose to disassemble the gun, taking it out of the stock, then reassemble it-minus the stock, you will see the relationship of the zig-zag shapped three position safety. I'm not exactly sure why it slips off and binds, but it does. What you just did seems to "fix" the problem. May well be why the Hunter folks went to the 2 position trigger in the final evolution of their safeties. As to the question, "is the gun safe?" That gets a qualified response in that it seems so, but safties are like any other mechanical device and do break/fail. Further I have lived long enough to just "know" Murphy is alive and well.
