It does not fire when closed or jar fire. This is a new gun to me and the prior owner is deceased. I noted the problem when I closed the gun with snap caps in place and pulled the trigger with the safety on. The right barrel fired and the left didn't. I have repeated it several times with the same results. I have taken the sidelocks off and when they are off the safety will move from the safe position to the rear position and back, but not forward into the fire position. It is a 3 position safety. When the sidelocks are off and the safety engaged, the right trigger will not pull, but it does pull enough with the sidelock on to release the spring/firing pin. Rob.
