I never disagreed on what Mark said about older vintage guns and their chokes. I was just stating that Hunter Arms Company refused to make chokes tighter that full choke. It really doesn't matter when the gun was made, these same bore diameters for chokes are still being used. It is definitely the shells that have changed, and yes they will shoot a tighter pattern with todays shells because of the wads. That wasn't the issue to start.
I actually disagree with any choke markings on any guns. Unless you pattern your gun with at least 10 rounds of each type of shell, shot size, dram equivalent of each shell at the yardages you are comfortable shooting at and get an average, what does it really tell you, nothing. Only if you are shooting at a turkey or some other stationary animal, bird, etc., will it really make a difference in your pattern The main thing is to make sure it shoots where you point it, most upland birds, it is usually a quick point and shoot, not much time to think about it, and hope that at least 2 of the hundreds of pellets find their mark in vitals.
When was the last time you purchased a brand new shotgun with choke markings, and did they include any type of literature saying what type of shell, shot size, dram equiv., wads that they used for their findings?
