In Everton's situation, results are all that matter. Style of play is a luxury you can afford when you're winning games regularly. If you're finishing safe of the drop by a mile, then you can start to quibble how points are being won (as we did ad nauseum on here when Moyes was grinding out results in his weaker seasons).
Form is results, and consistently losing games while "playing well" means you're in deep shit. The oldest cliche in football is that good teams win when not playing well, so we can safely make assumptions about teams who constantly lose while putting in good performances.
In the current state of the club, winning games while stinking the gaff out is an entirely acceptable scenario. Not sure my three blood pressure medications will be enough for another April sweating on the table.
