It's always been the same, well certainly in my lifetime as well.
The media in the run up to the 1979 election was the start (for me) of the modern media spin I was approaching school leaving age and had a paper round at the time so had access to all of the dailies which had a common theme, the unions are running the country, Labour isn't working and not tough enough on law and order.
There was one house on my round that had the Morning Star, as you can imagine they were having none of it.
