Thanks Judith - and yes - there are so many different spellings - including Golsdworthy which is clearly (or not!) a simple misspelling. Gole Gold Gols and Gals so far to name a few. "Our" Bertha was born 18th June 1873 in Honiton and died just short of her 100th birthday on 3rd December 1972 in Leyland. She was my Great Grandmother who I was lucky enough to meet. We don't know what became of her mother Elizabeth after 1884, whether she too came up North or whether she was just visiting at the time of the 1921 census. We do believe that she may have died in Leyland in 1930.
