Apparently there were lots of crowns, which is why we see different crowns in the paintings of early kings. It's interesting that Elizabeth I wore her brother's smaller crown. The crowns made for men would have been large and heavy for her. But she was thrifty; she also recycled robes and even one of her sister's dresses.
