Thank you for your research, Nellie! (My question resulted from the mention of three crowns in the description posted by Karen.) It is interesting that the Imperial State Crown has its origins in Tudor times. So in fact does a personal crown, perhaps a precedent for Queen Victoria's tiny crown. The crown made for Edward VI must have been smaller and lighter, and therefore easier to wear during a banquet, than the Crown of St. Edward and the Imperial Crown. We know that the crowns of today are heavy; Queen Elizabeth still practices when she needs to wear the Imperial State Crown, to get used to its weight. The old pre-Restoration crowns were no doubt at least equally heavy.
