It does seem that the Coronation Chair is placed on the edge of the Cosmati pavement, or that the Chair was placed there in 1953 anyway.
The Cosmati pavement is quite beautiful and what a great achievement that it is now restored. Perhaps someone will know if the central motif has special meaning.
The pavement seems to cover this area before the Altar.
In 1953 the floor was all carpeted -
