WDRV-FM/97.1 and WVAZ-FM 102.7 seem to trade places for the #1 position with The Drive as the winner.
I note WBBM-AM is no longer combined with WCFS-FM/105.9. I read somewhere this station is pre-recorded overnight. I cannot verify this.
What exactly is WLIT-FM doing or not doing to cause a dip in their 6+ ratings? Soon enough, Christmas music will bring the annual bonus of ratings and revenue.
I see WXRT-FM/93.1 took a dip from 5.3 to 4.8. Music stations may have taken a backseat to news. Football is about to begin; we still have baseball and more.
WLS-FM has found their niche. 3.9 to a 4.2. They always seem to bounce back. WRME-LD 87.7 is competitive. This is a platform to advertise Me-TV and related channels that company operates. A friend who is 70 confesses to listening to both WLS-FM and WRME. When I asked about his favorite music, 50s, 60s and early 70s. This would knock WLS-FM out of the picture in my mind. I have no idea what WRME-LD plays. Their audience is out of the desired demographic for premium advertisers.
Both WBMX-FM/104.3 and WTMX-FM/101.9 have been tied for the last 3 surveys.
WKQX-FM/101.1 finally found an audience! This could be historic in their format. It may be the reason why WXRT-FM took a dip this month. 'KQX-FM rose from a 1.9 to a 2.5.
WBBM-FM/96.3 and WKSC-FM/103.5 are pretty close with a 2.5 and a 2.1 respectively. Has B96 adjusted their music again? Jeremy? WYTZZ95FM?
WSCR-AM/670 The Score has risen to a 2.4 from a 2.2.
WCHI-FM/95.5 has dropped from 2.4 to 2.2. My 2 cents. No, you're not Chicago's rock station. Rock is so fragmented, there are too many factions out there. This is about as good as it gets for WCHI-FM. They may hit a 2.5 or slightly higher, but I would not bet the farm. WDRV-FM/97.1 has a stranglehold in the "Classic Rock" arena. WCHI-FM is trying to please too many demos and females are a major factor. Look at what they are "forced" to play to keep the ladies listening.
WLS-AM/890 is slowly moving up to a 1.5 from a 1.2. There is a Presidential election in November.
WERV-FM/95.9 with their Alternative format holds steady with a 0.3. This Aurora station cannot penetrate Chicago proper due to their suburban signal.
I note WBBM-AM is no longer combined with WCFS-FM/105.9
Did you read this somewhere? I have not heard this. The station no longer promotes the AM on air and the last ratings breakdown I saw (over a year ago) AM ratings are way below the FM numbers.
WLIT has somewhat changed their music. They have competition up and down the dial too.
Yes B96 shifted their music and are kinda moving away from that lifestyle format. Still, pitiful 6+ numbers for a CHR to have 2.5 and 2.1Radio lesson #1 - CHR is heavy 12 -17 female #'s. Double digits. Up over 50 shares are not uncommon. When you see a CHR that is in market #3 and they are at a 2 share, there are major issues. Time for Sports move on to 96.3 and de-emphasize the AM stick. Not sure who they can LMA to in Chicago, but Audacy is getting out of the AM signal business. I have said this many times before, they keep detuning the 780 signal and the WCBS shutdown are all very valid reasons.
WLIT: Aerosmith, Alanis Morrisette, Bon Jovi, and a lot of uptempo 80s music, and more noisy music suddenly being mixed in with the "Relaxing Favorites"
I mentioned this last month, but V103 doesn't surprise me. Gave it a listen for several days in a row, very well programmed station.
CHR: We have 3 stations playing different variations of the same thing. WTMX is the highest by default since its targeted more toward an older audience and is more mass appeal. They play the Hits and a lot of recurrents and some golds. WKSC has been straight ahead Mainstream CHR but they started mixing in a lot more of the throwbacks that B96 has been playing. So WKSC is basically another variation of WTMX, with more B96-like Golds instead of the Rock golds that WTMX plays. And then there's B96 which is mostly golds.
WKQX dropped their syndicated night show in July. Lot of people were thrilled about that. Not sure if it has any effect at all or if some people just changed the station for awhile.
The Score will obviously be going up as we head into football and basketball season.
WCHI typically goes up and down a little on and off depending on people's mood.
>>I note WBBM-AM is no longer combined with WCFS-FM/105.9<<
To clarify, I was referring as how they are listed in the Nielsen PPM ratings. Perhaps my mind is a little foggy...I thought WBBM-AM/WCFS-FM were listed together due to the FM simulcast.
WCBS-AM 880 in New York was a historic station. It's shameful Audacy decided to blow it up for ESPN. Audacy badly needs the money and now New York has one all-news station, WINS-AM/1010 and WINS-FM 92.3 FM.
1010 WINS is a historic all-news station. The issue is it focuses nearly all of its resources on the five boroughs of New York. "You Give Us 22 Minutes, We Give You The World." Its format was designed for very short attention spans. WCBS-AM had interviews and more in-depth reporting. WCBS-AM or as it was known, has a far-reaching signal. WINS-AM has a directional signal which is horrible at night and in key areas. The FM signal helps, but it's fortunate this station streams.
I can see Audacy removing news programming from WBBM-AM/780 at some point. As for WSCR-AM/670, there is room on the FM dial in Chicago for them.
WBBM-WCFS is RECORDED overnights. 1AM repeats at 3AM. 2AM repeats at 4AM. At 4:30AM, the station goes live. Not recorded.
FWIW, on MONDAY MORNINGS, (from Sunday nights) the station is LIVE with two anchors, alternating hours....you know. Like is used to be!
This subject was written about here in these hallowed pages, in 2021, though my searches could not find it.
From Wiki, for what that is worth: "The COVID-19 pandemic had a major effect on the station's daily operations, with only three people at a time in the station's newsroom and most of the station's anchors and news writers remote working. Traffic reports were temporarily reduced, the station's sportscasts were reduced, and some airshifts, mainly overnights, do not feature traffic reports, with some news hours pre-recorded with only reference to the minutes rather than anchors being live, though breaking news in overnight hours is still covered live."
I ALWAYS learn here. Thank you all, for the opportunity! John (in Michigan, for a while.)
Get ahold of the book and look at the demos for WRME. You will be surprised. #9 in 25-54 for example. It even has an 18-35 audience. Just like successful MeTV, it serves under served listeners.
