It was late when I saw this thread and I ran out of steam around midnight, before I had fully answered your post. The Navy actually had the curved approach available before the Corsair or before the FAA would have a chance to teach the USN anything, but I don't have any citations handy to back that up and half-assed my response to that part due to fatigue and an impending alarm clock. I'll try and find something tonight (I've got some doctrine instructions).

Note that I'm not trying to insult the FAA pilots, organization, or say that we learned nothing from their experience. Just that it wasn't the "The Navy couldn't land them on carriers until the Royal Navy taught them how!" trope that still gets repeated.
