Cory Graff is, in my opinion, quite good; his article here is succinct but notice the emphasis; the problem is not torque per se but asymmetric lift.

'Excess' torque magnifies the problem during takeoff or go-round (wave-off), particularly on flattops given the short 'runway', while landing with far fewer horses makes for a more docile mount. I suppose Dick J. could speak to this.
With one wing stalling out--in this case the right wing--the bird is going to roll to the left regardless of what the prop is doing. Any sort of real power during takeoff or go-round will roll the plane in similar fashion, adding to the roll resulting from the stall. Many a latter day hotshot has done themselves no good when they apply full power to their P-51 during a landing and find themselves fighting more torque than they ought to. Oh, and there's a big dollop of P-factor to consider with real power as well, which the rudder won't be handling well.
These factors--a stalled right wing, torque and P-factor--are separate but cumulative...not a good combination as any of the pix we've seen amply demonstrate.
But that's what good training and practice is all about.
