Mike Parkinson and Granite City council stop this!

This has been allowed to go on long enough. I'm in contact with a couple of local news channels and with any luck in no time at all they will knocking on the mayor's door at city hall with the cameraman on their heels. Fingers crossed they pick up and show an interest on this story.

It can't be legal for a city council member to run an election group and censor the citizens, to remove comments, and not allow every voting citizen access to this group. This is beyond censorship and election interference and obviously being done with the mayor's blessing. As I stated in a post yesterday, the only opponent the mayor has, literally has very little chance, if any of being elected from lack of experience. I would be surprised if she would receive 100 votes at best!

But even though 3/4 of the city is aware of this, the character assassinations are allowed daily on this group at the hands of the Granite City council. I hope when this opposing candidate reflects back at this election cycle, she hires a good lawyer and takes the city, the administration and the owner and administrators of that group to the cleaners with a law suit!

"Liar and Fraud" are strong labels that can destroy the character of a local businesswoman.

I've asked about this before. From what I was told, she has the page registered as an LLC now which insulates her from a personal lawsuit.

What you're posting here doesn't reflect the LLC title as the other page apparently does. I'm amazed facebook even tolerates such censorship.

Now that being said, from what I've seen, the realtor has done her fair share of slander as well. She throws around words like corruption, filling his own pockets and other accusations about the mayor.

There's a little something in law that is called the "clean hands doctrine". Hers aren't clean from what I've seen.

Here's the real funny thing. As you correctly point out, she has no chance in hell of winning. I think you underestimate how many votes she will get. I'm betting around 300. That many people don't like Parkinson (probably got a ticket) and she probably has at least twenty people who like her enough to waste a vote.

The whole thing makes the community look like a den of banjo picking, mouth breathing Hoosiers. They should stop.

Eddie, I forgot the question at the end of my post. How do you suggest the mayor or city council stop her from running her page? Would that be an infringement on her rights?

Good question Opinionated, and it's a bit of a slippery slope. I believe anyone should be able to run a group or page, but the devil is in the details on this one making it a huge conflict of interest. She should be forced to remove the "62040" from the title which implies the connection of the group to the city. The group being an election page, should be forced to be public allowing any and all candidates and voters equal opportunity to discuss and exchange opinions and ideas about all things surrounding "62040" elections. This opportunity when being offered should be without bias and censorship. This meaning all candidates and their supporters without her personal interference.

The title of the group is misleading. Currently, as she is censoring, deleting comments and members over their opinions and comments, unintentional or not, she has set herself up for quite a legal battle. All of this biased, slander and election interference has been being allowed without the protection of her LLC, as you can clearly see she has renamed the group to "62040 Election April 2025) with no LLC to be found in the title. I'm sure the 62040 Election April 2025 has no incorporation papers filed for it, which opens the door to a lawsuit being filed against her personally. For all the reasons stated above, this is why the mayor should have spoken out against this being allowed. He is an active member of this group and this alone, in my opinion, would just strengthen any suit brought against the city itself.

I have to agree with most of that. I think it makes it look like she is afraid of what might be said about some of her actions or that of her son and nephew that became FB. Parkinson sure doesn't need the protection.

It looks like Mrs. Benda may be guilty of a little blocking and deleting herself according to this Moon guy. Is that right or smart for a candidate either?

No, it sure isn't. If anything, we've all become used to if not jaded to mudslinging between politicians so we most of the time we view it as political business as usual. But this situation with the 62040 election group, the mayor being aware of who owns and runs the group, being a member himself and not speaking out over the biased being displayed by his council, I don't think would settle well with a judge in this particular situation. Another great point you made being the very vocal and often times embarrassing situation with the son, that sure was facebook news.

The mayor certainly does not need the protection, he is completely capable of handling this election and the opponent himself. And he certainly doesn't need the biased interference of his council to help him win either. His first election was another slam dunk win considering the alternatives and this one will be no different unless the people screaming a fit over this election group and what the council member has been doing with the censorship and allowing the character assassinations against anyone who doesn't support her choice for mayor, reaches the boiling point and all her efforts backfire and sends sympathy votes into the realtors column.

Must be a slow night in the Granite City Council member's 62040 Election group. They're looking to liven things up a bit by chumming the water to draw in the sharks (hellhounds) with the admin making this post to the entire group.

I wonder how long this call to action will take before Laura L, Leah D. or Kay R and now Moon B. start circling the gullible baby seal that just can't avoid the abuse and punishment that this group dishes out. Run lady run, why set yourself up for the bloodbath, you will never win or get a fair chance with this group, the group is owned and managed by a current member of the mayor's council, the very same mayor you are running against in the election!

This post proves NOTHING other than you are allowing this candidate back into the group. You can ban and unban any member as many times as it serves your purpose, but nice try!

What's sad about this is the way it makes the city look to normal people who just want to live here and raise their kids here.

I mean why not just wave a red cloth in front of a bull? Did this alderwoman, assuming it's the same one that called the businesswoman, "batshit crazy", not learn her lesson the first round? Does she think this Benda woman (who again is a bit goofy herself) is going away after the election? You make a good point Ed that Parkinson doesn't need the protection. Hell, this is no more of a challenge than Bailey and Cohen were.

Let sleeping dogs lie. According to what we all read, the council couldn't silence their co alderperson so maybe she thinks she's unstoppable.

Either way, this kind of rap is why FB is nothing better than the old Topix page.

It appears as if someone may have reached out to the mayor or the Granite City council member about her facebook group. Someone or something sure made her aware of the lack of liability protection over changing the name of the LLC group to the 62040 Election group. I'm sure once she thought about the situation she put herself, the council and the city in without realizing it she couldn't apply the brakes fast enough. It's a bit too late to take back and reverse the damage that was allowed to be done for weeks on that group multiple times daily. It's like a lightbulb went off in someone's head and they thought oh no, what have I been thinking, I wasn't thinking!

The name was changed again and this time renamed to the 62040 LLC. Then quickly after a new post was made for members to once again follow the council member's group rules. After weeks and weeks of personal attacks and character assassinations of the mayor's only opponent, now she has decided that her members must follow the group rules.

Mrs. O said today that the Benda woman screwed up a business card by putting for "MAYOK" and everyone is getting a good laugh about that.

Could it be that Benda is just not into details enough to be a mayor? I mean the other day she wa quoted saying something like "we was". Who talks like that if you're professional?

Seems like there's enough stupidity to go around. LOL..

You can bet not only the council woman, but about 95% of city hall too. They all read but choose to remain silent. The constant typos from posts, flyers and just about anything else produced from the local realtor running in this election are cringe worthy and every time I read any of it, I find myself almost holding my breath. I'm going to chalk it off to a case of nerves and pressure and extreme stress. I've always gravitated towards the underdog, but in this situation just can't get there.

She may be a nice enough lady and certainly has to have some degree knowledge, but knowledge enough to run a city and handle all that comes along with that, I just don't see it and can't give her my vote. I read the exact posts your Mrs. did, and I thought to myself, no no no....stop! The (we was) repeated a couple of times, was actually painful.

In her defense, she may have felt that (we was) might be a vote getter. The Granite City C- English vote should never be overlooked.
