One of the newer finger pointing exercises done by the Illinois education interests is to blame the situation on the lead levels in children. However years ago in the days of leaded gasoline children breathed lead on a daily basis. Paint often had lead and some companies even boasted of the high value of the white lead in their formulas. I, and many other children, would always ask for a bit of putty that was full of lead. Back in the day we had excellence coming from our schools, the USA had the best schools in the world and Granite, as well as many other Illinois schools, fielded some excellent well educated students. What changed? One thing for sure we didn't have these unionized teachers and politically oriented administrators. We should easily see that despite throwing more and money at t he problem isn't the way to fix things. We need new employees because the current bunch has shown...they just can't cut it.
