Agree with you on this one Dee. We're still such an antiquated county. There is absolutely no reason for the duplicate services that we still pay for here.
Start with the townships. There's nothing they do that a neighboring community couldn't absorb into their operation. From assessments to street work, these dinosaurs need to die off.
Also in this day of technology a recorder of deeds isn't needed when all of that work can be taken care of by the county clerk with one or two additional staff workers.
No reason in this world, other than ego, that GC can't merge with Pontoon Beach and Mitchell and maybe even Madison and Venice. Yes I know the rednecks who don't want "those people" here would hate it but it would be beneficial to the area.
Same goes with the school districts. It's time to merge GCSD with Madison and Venice. We have closed buildings here and a decreased population at the high school. Bite the bullet and bring those kids in. Think of the cost savings that alone would bring to the taxpayers.
It's time to modernize our thinking and reduce the layers of political wanna be's.
