The Marlins want any potential trade partner to take on a large part of that almost 300 million dollar contract rather than just be offered prospects. The Cardinals prefer adding prospects rather than paying such a large portion of that salary. Also Stanton has a no trade clause and has in the past shown very little interest in playing in the central part of the country. The Cardinals in the end to have a chance for Stanton are going to have to eat at least 220 million of that contract as well as ponying up at least 3 top tier prospects. Reyes is probably as good as gone in any deal for Stanton, but even though he is injury prone, when healthy he is a monster. Boston is said to be in on Stanton now and they may have the best shot of any team at the moment. Wherever he winds up no team will be acquiring him on the cheap. IMO hes worth the cost, hes a real difference maker.
