You KNOW the mayor and city hall reads this board, but never a response except the occasional comment by Dan McDowell. I really believe he is the only one on our council with a brain and who cares.
And it appears from his absence that he's been directed not to post on here.
I cannot believe that the single most traveled intersection in our town will now highlight an even bigger freakin' used car lot. And you are absolutely correct about the Gitchos holding that corner hostage. It was trashy enough on it's own for decades, so what does our city council and mayor do? Allow them to expand that mess because they agreed to take down Bamboo Bistro? They get to sell off or lease that lot to because they agree to demolish the building? Then they sell it or lease to another used car lot owner? I pray the council will someone how choose to enforce some kind of rule about dayglow orange streaming banners and flags, or anything else that will further cheapen that corner. I'm so pissed I can't see straight.
And whatever happened to that "business" that bought the lot where the Pancake House used to stand? Oh, the city sold it for a song because a local business was going in there. Where the hell is it? It didn't happen? They are now sitting on that property instead of establishing a new business.
A property owner on Victory gives two houses to the city, and the mayor is looking into finding someone to rehab them? Yes, it's true. Since when is the city in the business of rehabbing houses? What relative or friend will get this contract?
Will they require the rehabbers/mayor/council members to live in them for the obligatory amount of time they require in that ridiculous, idiotic resolution they passed recently?
There is money in the city budget to rehab a couple of properties relinquished to the city, but not enough to tear down that damned restaurant? They could have torn down that building and leveled the lot and then our Economic Developer could have scouted for retail or a restaurant, promoting the property as being located on the busiest corner in our city. Flanked by a McDonald's, Dairy Queen, KFC, a new CVS pharmacy, a shopping center and Granite City school property...but no, we allow the Gitchos to hand it off to Jerry Myatt so he can open up another, or move his existing, buy here - pay here used car business to this property? The zoning committee JUST REZONED THE PROPERTY NEXT TO HIS original business so he could park more used cars there.
Hell, let's turn the entire damn town into a used car lot.

People, people, people...if WE don't wake up and elect someone with a REAL VISION for this town, we are DOOMED. D O O M E D as a city.
I challenge the mayor and anyone from the council to get on here and explain this blatantly ignorant decision to allow JM Motors to now dominate the busiest intersection in Granite City.
