Speak, it may have come across more negatively than I meant it to be.
Ms.Whitaker does indeed own businesses in the downtown area and they are within the downtown TIF district. If she is elected Mayor, it could be a conflict for her to be the tie breaking vote on any matters including monetary ones in the downtown district. With a ten member council, that could happen.
She did indeed lose her seat in her area so to win city wide would be an uphill battle for her.
Yes, aldermen are elected to serve a certain area but they also have a vote on everything that goes on within city boundaries. I wish my two aldermen worked one half the amount that Ms. Whitaker does to project our city in the best light. I applaud her for that effort.
I hope that clears it up. Reading my original post back, an early morning one, I can see now it was a little harsh.
