God bless the liberals. So if some punk kid beats up another kid, he can't be given a suspension of more than three days? Great. God forbid we take away the rights of a little punk to beat up an honor roll student.

How many students wound up getting suspended more than 3 days over their involvement in the Great Catsup Strike of 2011? I believe one of the arguments posed by students was that catsup should be provide for chicken nuggets as well as fries. If memory serves me, I had a cousin get suspend for 5 days for bringing his own catsup to school. He graduated an honor student, was not in anyway a problem student.

When I was at the High School, there was an Ass(hat) Principal named Hamilton. I think if you wound up in his office, it was an automatic 5 days, even if your actions were reasonable, or just. A California student recently knocked out an asshat that was punching around a blind kid. Hamilton, would have agreed with suspending the hero, zero tolerance, means zero tolerance.

You make a very valid point that this takes away from more draconian forms of punishment for more extreme circumstances, but they are already calling the cops for little playground squabbles. Lets not forget pop tart boy, I know that happened in a different state, but of all the absurdities I've ever heard, thats up there.

Moreover to your example, what lesson is learned by a bully getting to spend 10 days out of a classroom he is already disinterested in, and what good is it to the honor student, who is probably going to be working under a bully type at some point is his career, that someone being wrong to you means you don't have to face them for 10 days?

If administrators are going to write silly "zero tolerance" policies, it makes since to limit their use. The schools have absolved them self of their responsibility in considering what is sane, reasonable, and just, in pursuit of these zero tolerance automatic punishments. Blame them, I'm with the state legislators on this one, and think thats with conservative, not liberal, logic.
