Thanks, Opie, and thank you too you dirty jarhead!
We need to reform our criminal justice system, not just for the accused, but for the police service as well.
Its easy to "shoot from the hip" in highly emotional topics like this one.
And we are all guilty. But a bit of rationality (with all things, too) shows that the solution lies somewhere in the middle of all of the ideas. A solution MUST have contengincies for psychological services within the police force too, to deal with situations "on the beat" as well as help officers deal with the mentally taxing duties they must perform.
As far as PTSD goes, I'll never get too far away from that monster. It's just a fact that I accept, and am getting INVALUABLE tools at the VA (quit the poison they pump in us months ago and am JUST now starting to "get my life back") to deal with it.
I was an officer for a "cup of coffee" with a local police department (tore the ligaments that connect my abs to my pelvis and couldn't pass the police academy physical entry test, so was let go) and ALMOST applied for GCPD (until I got pissed with the application, thinking "Im a GD combat veteran, wtf do I have to do this stuff like Im some schmuck off the street"-ego/pride thing, and threw the app in the can.
I'd LOVE to be a police officer, to be honest, because I have a servant's heart, and what better to fulfill that than to continue to put my life on the line everyday for my "sheep".
Anyway, just thought I'd add my thoughts about psychological assistance and counseling being added to the police personnel...because it is SORELY needed.
