What an excellent post Elcooksta. Can you imagine being a cop and going into a home where dad has just beat the crap out of his wife in front of their three year old daughter? He/She has to put the jerk under arrest while mom is still crying and in the same moment, he/she has to calm the child. These people are human. I couldn't do it. My first response would be to go upside the guys head with a baton for doing what he just did.
You faced similar circumstances as a veteran. You go into a village or town where you see the innocent victims of war. You see the hungry kids with rags for clothes looking for a parent who had been killed. You're not just a soldier. You have to have compassion and yet be on guard every second you're in uniform.
Pathetic that what many of us consider as heroic professions are spat upon both literally and figuratively in this country.
Sorry to hear you are having or had issues with PTSD. I hope you have conquered those demons now and once again, I thank you for your service to this country.
God bless our American heroes both home and abroad.
