What a day for Granite City! Our city was showcased for hours this morning on Fox 2 news. New and old businesses in the downtown area were visited and owners and employees interviewed. Granite City in the spotlight in such a positive way showing its growth and opportunities.
I have to ask, where was our Mayor? Why did the Mayor not even make an appearance while the city he represents is being toured and televised for hours?
The Chamber of Commerce Director, Rosemarie Brown did a wonderful job during her interview, she was very informative and fun to watch. Thanks to her and Brenda Whitaker for making an appearance and helping point out the positives of the downtown area. Thanks and congratulations to all the businesses and owners and employees for participating and making us all proud!
Mr Jon Ferry once again, missed the boat. This was his moment to sell our city. The reporter comments, "so I hear the city owns this theater" and Mr Ferry answers, Ummmm, yes. The people said we need a theater, blah blah blah and a few more meaningless empty words and remarks and he lets the golden opportunity to promote and sell the city's potential for additional business and growth to a huge audience, slip right through his fingers.
I can't help but wonder just how much further our city would be if we had a Mayor with a true passion and interest for our city's growth. I am both relieved and thankful he is not running again in the next election. It is obvious not only in the day to day actions, but with his absence during the showcasing of his city, he has became both lazy and far to comfortable. It is time for the changing of the guard and all associated dead weight.
