I think the low lifes congregate in Granite partly because of politics based on the general stereotypical view of an old industrial town, and then partly because the people living there kinda just give up. That's the secret. Not giving up. There's no reason why Granite City couldn't be a desirable place to live (after all, it once was)...if the residents would just get together and demand that issues that cause the problems be addressed and dealt with. The housing stock in Granite is wonderful, especially the older parts...and Granite has a great street grid that's still intact. Those two facts are very desirable to young professionals and urban minded people today. Plus it's close to downtown St. Louis. All it takes is organized dedication and making those you vote for work for you.
