This township garbage is par for the course throughout the entire state. Townships no longer serve their purpose, like offering services to rural less populated areas. They have become private financial enterprises for small groups of people (normally related to or associated with each other)who move heaven and earth to perpetuate selective employment through actual elections or by nepotism. Then to wrap it all up, they BUY a like minded attorney who has proven themselves to do what they are told to do (unless it is so illegal that they won't chance it) who sits back and racks up check after check for minimal effort. Normally, these "township attorneys" represent multiple venues, resulting in a hefty cash flow, again with minimal effort. The union contracts negotiated on behalf of the taxpayers for the township workers are soft and vague, intentionally, because the guy in charge of negotiations usually has friends and family as the employees....and who wants to piss of friends and family? Who doesn't want to pay friends and family the highest wages possible? Who doesn't want to give friends and family the best benefits possible? How could a boss who sits bellied up at the Venice Social Club or Smokey Joe's drinking beer with his subordinates all the time be effective in negotiating their employment contract? Mr. Moore is currently working with a contract negotiated by his predecessor, and unfortunately, he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. I'm not saying he wasn't a good man, but business minded? Hardly. If you were negotiating a contract that you knew your own flesh and blood, not to mention life long friends, would be forced to comply with...how rigid do you think it would be? Why in the world do you think that Buddy OBrian's son Ed and Mark McKechan (both Nameoki Township Highway employees) destroyed all of Gene Baker and Scott Kohler's oppositions campaign signs? The wanted Gene Baker to stay put, another "look the other way boss" who didn't care that McKechan had an extensive arrest record and did not have a Illinois driver's license. He didn't mind Mark and Ed's constant "no call no show" work history. Yeah, that would pretty much be incentive to keep him in office if you asked me. Not to mention the fact that Kohler's (who was running for supervisor) wife was a McKechan, and she drove them from venue to venue to destroy all the signs. And Tammy Hanfelder was the apple of Ken Davis and Gene Baker's eyes. Her father is friends with Ken Davis...so why would she run with the opposing team you ask? Because she was smart enough to run with Helen Hawkins. Helen has proven herself credible and honorable decade in and decade out, her constituents are loyal. So there you have it towhook, that's my take on it all. And when the elections came around you better believe I voted for Don Moore. He has only had a year in office, with a miserable winter, and not a whole lot of cooperation to work with. Elections aren't for another three years, yet the rhetoric has already began. Most anyone previously employed under OBrian or Baker wants him GONE...like yesterday. Why do you think that is? I know why it is, and those are the people who don't need to be working in the township. How dare Mr. and Mrs. Moore drag the smallest smidgeon of true public service into that rat's nest? How dare anyone question the poor work ethic of many on that road crew? And yes, he hired his wife, and yes it was supposed to be temporary. He did not create a position for her, it already existed. Apparently the crew conditioned under previous Highway supervisors take offense at actually being held accountable, being held to rules and acceptable employee practices. And if that's why she's there, then I'm all for it. Every single elected position (who doesn't want to pull 40k for a part time job?) and every hired position within the township is like FREAKIN' GOLD OUT THERE, there apparently isn't too much that people wouldn't do to keep it how it's always been. I'm not ready to jump to any conclusions, especially based on BIASED rumor and innuendo. Especially when you consider the source of that biased rumor and innuendo.
