lisa - i tend to think i have an open mind. it is why as an agnostic i read books about jesus and buddha...and i read them seeking to learn from them.
i think it is why i relate to the story of the buddha - and i have found some value in religious teachings from a multitude of backgrounds. i like to mix-and-match religions, taking aspects or teachings from each that i like.
perhaps in regards to christianity, my mind might be closed, despite my efforts to be open-minded. i studied the bible when i was younger, i attended classes to be confirmed into a christian church. i have already learned it and i never understood it. i never felt what others around me felt.
i guess what i am seeking to do, is RE-learn it the way others do...i am trying to find some kind of substance from the teachings. so far i can not find any. but there are so many sects of christianity, that term almost becomes too broad to use.
2 of my christian friends suggested the books i mentioned before. "vintage jesus" does a great job of explaining nearly all major christian faiths, and ways in which they differ. they said i should find something useful in there...but i really have not learned anything new from them, nor have i felt a deeper connection to myself or the universe.
i am interested in the book flowerchild suggested.
