The director JUST posted that he isn't going there to talk about funding, but about the mandatory spay/neuter program, but I'm not sure I believe him. I'm not sure he would be eligible for the funding himself, but Stray Rescue HAS taken away funding for APA by responding to all the city calls for free. Both HSOM and APA used to charge for the calls. And, since they both euthanize animals they don't deem "adoptable" or in their opinion would cost too much to save, I'm sure it's hurt their budget, there are TONS of calls. They were also part of a "Study" that HSOM and APA paid for that claimed since Stray Rescue took over, they have lost money and had more animals to deal with. What they didn't take into account, was the recession and the fact that all shelters have more animals right now. There are a couple of articles on stltoday.com if you want me to find them. The APA director has publicly told Randy that he would have him shut down a while back, though I'm not sure where the link to that one is anymore. There's more going on, but Randy doesn't want to talk about it in public. There have been a few notes that he posted, but then deleted because he really would rather everybody got along. I'm sure some of this could possibly be misunderstandings, but, to be safe, it would be really good if people showed up in support of Stray Rescue. The "report" that came out, was announced right after it was suggested that Stray Rescue would be getting this funding. Now there's a hearing about it, with less than 24 hours notice and one of the main guys against it is showing up. Regardless what the director says he's there for, a good crowd backing up Randy would be a good thing. We don't want people to second guess where that money should go.
