Hay, Old Timer--I'm just making polite conversation on an open community discussion board.

Beating a dead horse? Sounds like some influential minds are made up, no matter what Mark does, ever.

Me, a strong arm? Hardly. But I try to be open minded and fair in my thinking. The strong arm bullying comes from those with the power to negatively impact someone's life and property with no recourse for their taxpaying, property owning victims--for whatever reason.

If there are more factors why this man is being denied what he needs to survive, let's hear them, or let him hear them. So far, the city's reasoning against him just doesn't add up, in my opinion.

As for leaving this subject alone because I live in Pontoon Beach--if I was anonymous, like you are, you wouldn't know if I was a fellow resident of GC, or not. I do despise oppressive rule, and find it difficult to dictate to anyone what they can or can't do with their own property, within reasonable bounds. But that's just me.

Dismissive--another common trait of some elected or appointed officials who don't feel they need to listen to or discuss alternative or opposing views--or ever rethink their decisions, once made.

I appreciate the present mayor's efforts to improve Granite City, and think he's done a wonderful job in comparison to those who have recently served before him. I would not want to degrade him, or the downtown revitalization efforts, in any way, shape, or form. But, we do disagree on this matter.

I would rather see the man be able to succeed in his long-standing small business, than sit idly by doing and allowing nothing for him, and watch it/him fail. Just my humble, out-of-town opinion.
