I read some comments today talking about our Village. There was mention of the financial situation in Pontoon Beach being "dire". Also being mentioned was the possibility of the Village being dissolved, then split and becoming part of Granite City and Glen Carbon.
First of all, I would like to thank the current administration for allowing all the warehouses to come in and then giving them basically a free pass tax break.
While they are enjoying their free pass, all the truck traffic is slowly but surely destroying our roads. Was there a clause in this tax deal that protected the village from the cost of all the road repairs?
Another questionable expense, attorney fees. Does the village pay an attorney a yearly salary? If so, is this attorney exclusive to the village or does he have cases outside of the village? Does he actually have and occupy an office at our village hall in a 9 to 5 setting?
Another question...do we have an economic developer? Or, (one) person that is in a paid position with this title? If so, what does this position/title cost the village?
You can't convince me there is not a way to eliminate some of the expenses or at the very least cut down on the expenses of the village.
