To avoid a blow-up like the other thread, I'll respond to this. Opi, Jimmy Metal, and a few of the other schoolchildren would probably treat a response to that like it was open recess.
Anywho, did I ever say anything about the poor? EVER?
I don't believe I did, and if so, it must've been very obscure. I also don't believe I posted anything that resembles communism or true socialism in ANY way. But I guess I can forget about those typically false & misled comments. I'll also avoid social topics (huge arena there!) and try to focus on economics.
That said, yes, this country needs to cut welfare. I have always stated that on this board. It also has a massive debt & deficit that can only be solved via two methods: cut spending and / or raise taxes. I'm certain that both methods will have to employed to save this nation from encroaching debt and the interest outlays that it brings.
And yes, wealth redistribution is an integral part of any successful economy. Money is taken from you and I to be spent on everything from tanks, to seniors, to infrastructure, to kids who have deadbeat parents (and to the deadbeat parents also).
You seem to have focused, for some reason completely unrelated to my writing, on solely the poor in America. Their numbers are growing quick. But what should expect from a post-Keynesian system? Wages have been stagnant for decades, our economy has become dependent on service jobs & credit, trade deficits have appeared and expanded, and most of our education system lags behind the rest of the developed world.
All during the past three decades of less regulation, lower taxes, and an emphasis on the pursuit Laissez-Faire. All while the wealth distribution has drastically shifted to the upper echelon of society. All while the middle-class continues to shrink. All under the same two political parties.
I've watched it all unfold and something is wrong. Something has been broken. And I don't think the direction we're headed is going to fix it.
