There may be a difference in productivity among salaried vs hourly folks. I get paid the same whether it takes me 40 or 50 plus hours.

There are many distractions in office as well, socializing, unproductive meetings, interruptions. In office or out, you have to have structure, it's not for people who are not self starters. I think people who see it as a perk are motivated to do what is expected of them.
