The ends of the spacer usually are dyed 2 different colors so it is easier to see that the ends are butted up correctly.

: Unfortunately you won't know what's going
: on until you tear it down. After my
: own engine problems earlier this year I
: can really sympathize with you.
:
: As for the oil rings, I have a thought
: that may or may not apply. The last
: set of pistons I installed used two oil
: scraper rings separated by a sort of
: corrugated metal spacer ring. The ends
: of the corrugated spacer were supposed
: to butt up against one another but
: during my installation they kept
: wanting to pop over/into each other so
: the corrugations locked together. I
: spent a lot of time with my ring
: compressor trying to get things
: installed in a manner that I could
: still peek in there to see that the
: corrugated ring was properly in place.
: I still wonder if I got them all
: correctly installed.

: Based on the symptoms, oil rings are
: just
: a possibility. There is no way to check
: them without a teardown and visual.
: There could be a compression ring
: problem, which didn't show as low on
: the compression test because of the oil
: sealing it and showing slightly high. A
: leakdown test will show just how well
: sealed it is, at least the compression
: rings, if you have a tester, or can
: borrow or buy one.
: Hang in there, it's just a lump of
: metal...

: Hi again.
: After reading Oscars posting I must
: admit I'm a bit jealous. I can't get
: 2000 miles on an engine let alone
: 200,000
: As an update to my smoke issues:
: After removing the valve cover and
: rocker arm and taking off the valve
: springs on No.6 intake. Which was the
: worst cylinder. The valve seal looks
: perfect and so does the guide to stem
: clearance.
: As for crankcase breathing I'm just
: not sure what to think. I have never
: seen a TR engine with absolutely no
: blowby until this one. With the engine
: running and the filler removed from the
: valve cover there is nothing coming out
: the top. Either this is a really tight
: fitting engine compression wise, or
: there is no crankcase venting going
: on.. Oil does flow back to the
: crankcase though so it must be O.K.
: Also I restricted the external rocker
: arm oiler down to a .050 Diameter hole
: and it made no difference from
: unrestricted.
: It's looking like a tear down is in
: the works but I hate to do the same
: thing over and over again. The bottom
: line is why does this thing keep
: burning up oil control rings???
