The oil appears on the timing cover directly below the boss where the seal is and the oil runs down the timing cover from there. It drips off the bottom, front of the timing cover.
I could be misinterpreting where the oil is coming from. It could be coming out between the pan and front plate and is getting blown around by the air currents.
Like I said, I would like to rule out easier and cheaper possibilities first. If it looks to be the front plate I will clean everything off and put the UV dye in the oil to see if that is the source of the leak.
Thanks,
Doug L.

: Are you sure it is leaking from the seal
: and not the plate behind the timing
: chain? I remember after changing my
: timing chain, I had a leak on the
: bottom part of the plate and that's
: because I took off the 2 bottom bolts
: that were also holding the fuel line.

: You may remember that I only recently
: rebuilt the engine in our GT6.
: Obviously all the seals and gaskets are
: new. Much to my annoyance, we have
: developed a small oil leak from
: somewhere on/around the timing cover.
:
: I have re-checked that all the timing
: cover bolts are tight. I suspect that
: for some reason the shaft seal itself
: is leaking just a tiny bit. Being new,
: I doubt there is damage to the seal and
: I don't remember seeing any damage on
: the shaft spacer that goes between the
: timing gear and the harmonic balancer.
:
: I am hoping to make the seal stop
: leaking by installing a speedi-sleeve
: on the shaft spacer (since it it the
: spacer that contacts the shaft seal)
: and putting some gasket sealant on the
: joint between the front of the spacer
: and the harmonic balancer.
:
: If you have other suggestions for
: things to try and places to look for
: the leak I will be happy to hear them.
