It will settle down once you get it dialed in.
Now you have to find some nice twisty roads and enjoy it...

: I got the engine started at 3:30 this
: afternoon. It was a bit stiff but
: fired up fairly easily.
:
: The engine has a fairly rough idle at
: 1000 RPM. Part of that may get better
: with some tuning, part may be because
: of the S2 cam profile. The back carb
: is also leaking fuel. It looks like I
: have some tweaking to do but hopefully
: the engine itself is done.
:
: Thanks to everyone for your help.

: Thanks for the advice. I did not pack
: the pump with grease but I did nearly
: fill it with assembly lube prior to
: installation.
:
: When I last installed an oil pump I
: primed it using an adapter I made that
: you operate using an electric drill in
: reverse after removing the dizzy drive
: gear. I will use that again to build
: pressure before starting the engine.
:
: With any luck and good weather I will
: finish the remaining plumbing and
: wiring tomorrow. If I am really lucky
: I will get the chance to start the
: engine and run it for the cam bedding
: 20 minutes.

: If you didn't pack the oil pump with
: white grease or STP you'll want to get
: some oil into it to start it pumping.
: You can introduce some oil thru the
: pressure relief valve if patient....

: After literally 5 months, the engine
: for
: our GT6 is finally back in the car.
: Weather permitting I will hook up most
: of the ancillary components this
: weekend and start the engine sometime
: during the week.
:
: I'm sure there are still some surprises
: waiting for me but hopefully nothing
: major. Thanks to all of you on this
: board for your advice. Your input has
: been exceptionally helpful.
