I'm certainly no expert on Nepal, but from what I do know I don't think I agree with this statement. The downfall of the monarchy dates from the ex-King's decision to reverse his brother's decision to become a constitutional monarch. If he had remained an apolitical figurehead he might well be on the throne still. (Although in what condition his realm would be, it is hard to say.)
