Agreed. However, have any of you ever placed an arterial line? Ive placed over 2000. radial, ulner, brachial, pedal and femoral. I have assisted our anesthesiologists in placement of central lines (probably over 600 of them), swan insertion, administering blood products, (even IV pharm. agents), running blood gasses, IV placements...ect... Its what they do, and I'm their second hands. If an anesthesiologists trusts you as an AA-C, or (in my case as an anesthesia monitoring tech)..if they really TRUST you and know your capabilities, they are more than happy to allow you to do whatever needs be done for the care of the patient. Thats the most important part here. The care of the patient. The only real disadvantage is intubation, as we have very few opportunities to do that. So, you see..... you cant go out and say you as a paramedic is more natural for you to transition, because yes, you deal with trauma...yes you rush patients-critical patients off to the ER and hand them over...but anesthesia isn't always emergency and trauma. And, actually being in an OR and being with an anesthesiologist...Im sorry but I have to disagree and say that that is the best transition.
