Is that a problem that a lot of BSN/ADN nurses wanting to become an AA-C?...I say let the R.N.s come and function as a Allied Health Anesthetist Is that such a bad thing. If a nurse can and do function as "both" Anesthetist/Nurse(R.N.,A.A.-C.))in reality he/she will still be doing the same exact job as a CRNA in the ACT model, their(BSN/ADN) society will not be the AANA(The American Association of Nurse Anesthetist) but the society of AAAA(The American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist)plan and simple.
Think about it if I was a R.N. with a BSN or ADN and there was a AA school 15-30 minutes from my home and the nearest CRNA program was 2-3 hours away from me and I know that nurses can apply to AA program and I have met the requirements as well as the prerequisites to get into AA school. Level with me do you honestly think that I'm going to drive 2-3 hours a day to and from CRNA school 5 days a week, or pick up and spend thousands of dollars to relocate me and my family just to go CRNA route?...when there's an AA school 15-30 minutes from my home.
I have no desire to practice independent I know my role and boundaries as a mid-level anesthesia provider(RN,AA-C) I'm still going to be doing the same exact job as a CRNA in the ACT model, still will making six figures annually in the ACT just as a CRNA, still graduating with a Masters Degree in Anesthesiology(M.M.Sc., M.H.Sc, & M.S.A.)
In closing if I no longer want to be under the "supervision" and/or "medical direction of an MDA/DOA I continue to "MEDICAL" SCHOOL in 5 years I'm a M.D. Anesthesiologist(From AA-C to now MDA) that is the "PLUS" SIDE of being a AA-C.
I don't have to use "Politics" or Legislation to gain independent practice rights. a lot of your colleagues(CRNAs)not all CRNAs think this way, want the $pay, recognition, & respect of a MDA/DOA but don't want to go by it the right way which is go back to "MEDICAL" SCHOOL(That's what AA-Cs do) in my opinon if you want to be equal to a MDA/DOA then you know what to do!.
I personally welcome the R.N.s BSN/ADN to become AA-C(Anesthetist)and be an "ELITE TEAM" in the ACT model and the association of the AAAA/ASA.
