Hi I have mix emotions about the ordeal if a CRNA loses their license and want to continue practicing as an Anesthetist but practicing as a AA-C. for me my own opinion it would depend on the situation on how/why they lost their license and if I would give them a second chance to redeem them self, and hope they have learn from their last mistake.
Again it depends on the situation and how serious it was, example unsafe practice act which harmed and/or killed a patient(like in Las Vegas) definitely "NO PRACTICE" substandard care & unprofessional conduct "MAY BE"(give them a second chance).
Ultimately It's really the decision of the National Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Medicine, & Board of Osteopathic Medicine who will make that decision if that CRNA are worthy of being accepted to a AA program in becoming an Anesthetist(AA-C)again.
It's interesting you ask that question because I asked a AA-C Chief Anesthetist a month ago if I was a CRNA and I lost my "license" as a Nurse Anesthetist and I still wanted to practice as a Anesthetist but as a Allied Health Care Anesthetist could I apply to a AA program and become a AA-C?.
He said more than likely "NO" Why? because once the National Board of Medical Examiner(who governs AA-Cs)looks at my background as a CRNA and check to see why I lost my license as a nurse anesthetist "NO" they would not except me into the AA program period(meaning you will never be able to practice anesthesia ever). In my opinion I would have to say there is a solid national AA association with a strict policy in letting CRNAs practice as a AA-C when he or she lose their license as a nurse anesthetist.
I'm sure a lot of AA-Cs feel the same way you do they don't want your(No offense to you Dave J your awesome)problem children(CRNAs)in their association(AAAA)then again they may except your problem children(AANA) with open arms as well.
But I do have to agree with you and the other person there should be one "RULE" one "LAW" if you lose your license as a Anesthesia provider whether your a CRNA, AA-C, MDA, or DOA you should not be able to cross over to another anesthesia profession and continue practicing especialy when you have harmed and killed several patients under your "license"(Care). Why?...who's to say they want harm or kill patients again because of lack of caring, & unsafe practice act. etc
I believe ever body deserves a second chance but then again I feel it depends on the situation of you actions if you deserve a second chance in "life" or "not".
