Lots of lesbian and gay venues. Riding a cable car is fun, as is having clam chowder on the wharf. Alcatraz Island is interesting, if kinda dark. Don't know if you'll get close to Yosemite National Park, or seeing some giant sequoias, but both are beautiful.

Since you have someone to meet up with in LA, you might not need this info. But here's is what Fizzy said: Disneyland is great, but expensive. Universal Studios might be something Ash likes, especially with Harry Potter World. The Venice Boardwalk is cool, with lots of shops and great for people watching. Plus there are lots of inexpensive hotels near the coast. Of all the studio tours, Warner Bros is the best. Depending on where you're staying, some good Mexican food can be found at Don Cuco or Salsa & Beer (both in the valley), El Cholo (near Koreatown), or La Barca (downtown).
