) PBS is airing a documentary about the days when homosexuality was listed in the DSM (American Psychiatrist Association manual of mental illnesses). There are a couple of disturbing scenes about how shock therapy and lobotomies were used to "cure" gay people, but the documentary is ultimately uplifting.
For those of us who remember when being gay was viewed so differently (and still have some scars, though thankfully not literally), it's an interesting look into history. I learned that Hawaii was the location for the APA convention when they decided to remove it from the DSM. Awesome.
