Re: Election Speculations
Officers who "sit back and work M-F 9-5 day work only" get 104 regular days off in a year, while officers who work the road are off 122 RDOs a year. That's 18 days of free, off-duty time that the slackers in headquarters don't get. Officers on the road also get paid shift differential, unless it has been bargained away since the last time I checked. And no midnight shift unless they volunteer for it (with limited exceptions.) If the patrol division is understaffed, it isn't hard to determine by how much. Ever since the 1970s the police department has been using a comprehensive and very detailed, data-driven process to establish the number of patrol posts required in each district and the number of warm bodies needed to staff them, 24/7/365. If THAT isn't being done anymore, the FOP has a legitimate basis for demanding to know why not. It is a requirement to maintain the department's national accreditation status.
