    I wish there was an edit on here so that we could go back and fill in material instead of making a long trail.

    Anyway, Sully in thinking about this the only thing else that it might be if it does not cock at the receiver by using the cocking rods is that the trigger firing plate is hanging up and not letting the sears go all the way down to re-cock. Try slightly loosening the side plate long screw and the trigger housing screw (under the trigger guard) to top tang.
    If these suggestions don't work than you will have to take the stock off and re-assemble minus stock and now you can visualize how things work or don't work. There are only a few moving parts and the distance from the sear to the trigger firing plate is very critical.


    Your internals will not look like this unless it is a 1899 era gun, but you can see how close the sear to the firing plate is, and if the lock plate screw is too tight or loose it won't work properly and if the top tang screw is too tight the trigger firing plate could hang up.
