Thanks Dave- I removed the brass set screw and turned out the right barrel bushing-after I put a small drop of Hoppe's gun oil- with the hammers cocked, safety on, barrels removed, and the trip pushed to move the opening lever back to closed position- and clamped (very carefully and padded) vertically upright in my main gunsmithing vise with the heavy leather pads on each jaw-the pin broke off cleanly from the "shoulder" I pulled it out with a small "pencil magnet" I use for gun working-have no idea where the tip went-maybe in a gun case tip-but at least I know two things, maybe three, that will help me sleep well tonight- (1) I don't have to remove the lockplates (2) I can machine a new pin, or tip and TIG weld and then dress it off-most likely free machine bar stock- I might temper the tip" with an oil quench- but the FM steel should "smack" a soft copper primer without needed to be a Rockwell C 42-46 like a punch- (3) I don't have to ship it-that scares me-in today's TSA airlines and crooked UPS and other carriers- this fine old Smith is 101 and from what I know of shotguns and guns per se, it was very well cared for-It fits be like a glove, kills graveyard dead the pigeons and starlings I have shot so far with it (fezzant opens in one month) and I am very pleased to have joined this group, the info and reparte herein is Fantastic-Thanks again!!
