Thank you David. I appreciate the remarks about the website. I have enjoyed chasing those little birds for a few decades and I got this 16 gauge gun this year just for that purpose. The ejectors work well so they must not be bent. They also move in and out freely, at least within their operational range. I will try and tap them out. What is the small round thing (approximately 1/8" in diameter) that goes in the hook right above the ejectors and appears to be held in by a pressed in pin? It seems to move with the ejectors. It passed the dollar bill test. The gun closed with the bill in there but there was no chance it was going to move before or after the triggers were pulled. With the forend off, the toplever held to the right, and the flats tight against the barrel flats I tried to see if I could feel any discernable movement by pushing and pulling the barrels forward and backward. I did not. Then, with the help of my wife I tried the dollar bill test without the hidden fastener. She put the bill in each barrel and I closed the gun. Still holding the toplever to the right while pushing the forend forward and pulling the stock back she tried to remove the bills. They didn't move. I get the side to side movement whether the forend is on or not. My cheap RCBS case length gauge shows the hook as being .375"/.376" wide while the channel is .380" wide. I guess those few thousands is the reason for the side to side play. I had no idea any L.C. Smiths came with blued receivers. Thanks for that bit of information. If my only option is to put tape over the stock along the edge of the receiver and use steel wool I will do that. Skip
