DAvid W, Crown and Nitro Steel barrels, as well as most of the other types of fluid steel barrels used by Hunter Arms were actually domestically produced steel tubes (Damascus, Whitworth, and Krupp were obviously imported). In this instance I believe Mark is referring to the area on the bottom side of the barrels between the barrel flats and fore iron hanger, as opposed to the barrel flats, which area is sometimes not polished as well as exposed barrel surfaces. If that is indeed what he is trying to describe, it could be factory original; but exposed excess solder around the barrel ribs would never have passed inspection, so a good photo would be very helpful in attempting to understand his concerns there. I do not believe Mark is referring to any jeweling of the barrel flats, that was a special feature reserved for only the highest grade Smith guns. If this gun has that feature it would indeed have been a special customer request and extra dollars.
