the more duration the cam has the higher the static (pistons)ratio you can run.
If you have the head resurfaced it effects the cam timing, (.001") won't be critical but .020" is.
this requires a variable cam timing sprocket or offset cam keys. ( as you lower the head through machining the belt length adjustment through the tensioner changes the cam timing)
I would check the head for trueness (flat) and not machine if ok.
pistons will raise compression but remember valve clearance.
