I heard a lot of complaints this weekend as well. Turnout was extremely low, probably because of Unadilla, Not enough advertisement, and just people not wanting to race there.
I know you can't fix everything overnight, but there are a few things that could be done in a short time to help. First, I always hear complaints about the bathrooms. Most women do not like the bathrooms at the Hollow. If you could get some fresh Jiffy Johns and have some good clean bathrooms for the women, I think that would help cut down those complaints.
The dirt is a much harder fix. Mother nature has not been very kind to the Hollow. The track tends to get slippery and slimy during practice, then turns hard and dusty during the races. The only short term solution to this that I can think of, would be to take some water breaks after every 6 or 7 motos. With a small turnout like this weekend, that can be done. Unfortunately with a big turnout, that will make the day even longer. Also I think you should water Spectator row and the parts of the track that are actually not raced on. The water will soak into the ground and also get soaked up by the track itself from underneath without causing mud on the actual track.
I really think the track needs to be dug down deep before winter. I believe that if you dig at least 3 feet or more, and then lay some mulch, sand, topsoil and other things to help hold moisture in; after that lay the 3 feet of dirt you dug up back on top of the track. Don't worry, it will settle over the winter. After winter when the grounds thaws, it will hold more moisture and also stay loamy throughout most of the year. Unfortunately that is a huge task. There are other ways also. You could ask some excavating companies what they would recommend.
This past weekend would have been a great opportunity to put haybales on all the insides during the first practice sesssion and then remove them for the second practice. The track definitely needs more lines and passing opportunities.
Sleepy Hollow can be a great track. It has the location, the name, and the history from what I hear. If we could get more people to comment on this with their ideas, maybe Jere could bring the Hollow back to the top. Lets all try to be a little positive with our comments. I know a lot of people hated the track this weekend, but if we all try to give Jere some positive feedback and advice, maybe we can all start liking the Hollow again.
