What is the difference between an AA and a CRNA. Besides the fact that you have to be a nurse to take the CRNA course. I am an AA in Canada and we relieve the anesthesiologist for periods of time. I have been left with the patient for 30+ min while the doctor was in recovery with his other patient. We insert A-lines, IV's, perform all intubations, give medications (per verbal order). We prepare the room prior to surgery, assist with epidurals/spinals etc. The doctor at some hospitals will not even start the operation unless an AA is present. Thanks for the clarification.
