Ah, so it's a problem of your limited vocabulary. In that case here you go:
if (conj). 1. In the event that: If I were to go, I would be late. 2. Granting that: If that is true, what should we do? 3. On the condition that: She will play the piano only if she is paid.
So by making a statement, such as "If x, then y", I was not automatically saying that y was true. It would only be true "on the condition that" x were true. I left the truth value of x unstated since you used "maybe". I know this is tough stuff so it's okay if you aren't quite getting it.
