Dave, you will notice I did not say CRNA' are Nurses and can never be medical directors, I said CRNA' are Nurses and will never be Medical Doctors (MD). Yes, in the medical profession there is a big difference between a medical director and a Medical Doctor. I do suppose a CRNA could be a Medical Doctor if they choose to go to medical school, but, that is the only route to an MD degree that I am aware of... Your point is well taken that there are different routes to become an anesthesia provider, my point is just that too. I just wanted to make the point that which ever path you choose, be proud of your specific degree/profession/title, and don't attempt to be or fight to become someone you are not. Thanks also for your professional attitude and responses to these issues.
