I'm in SO CA...8-9 miles north of Disneyland. My city is a bit removed from the concentrated areas of heavy population.
Luckily I'm near open canyons that are privately owned by oil companies. Nothing has been drilled in probably 50 years.
I moved here in the time (51 years ago) where there was hardy anything around. My kids walked past cow pastures to get to school. A freeway went in a few blocks away, about 2 years later and things started to change quickly. Not so quiet around here anymore.

Nothing of local foods since this whole state is made up of heinz 57 mix of nationalities.
There are pods of little cities dedicated to their foods/families and traditions.
